Hard ball Hardball has variously been comp ared to The Bad News Bears and The decently Ducks, but this film strives to be more than hard-hitting than both of those family-friendly, comedic efforts. A more apropos likening might be to Dangerous Minds, the flaccid, Hollywood-ized yarn of a teacher who makes a struggle to her underprivileged students. Hardball is most a reluctant baseball baby buggy who changes the lives of his pre-teen players even as they change his perspective on his have existence. The movie is on occasion trite, often formulaic, and frequently familiar.
